Sponsored by Department of German
Monday, October 15, 2012
Andrei Markovits, Professor of Political Science and German Studies at the University of Michigan, will discuss the complex interplay of the global and the local in sports today. He will examine the 21st-century phenomenon of global sports, in which professional teams and their players have become agents of globalization while at the same time fostering deep-seated and antagonistic local allegiances and spawning new forms of cultural conflict and prejudice.
This event is open to the public.
