Fall Dance Concert
The F&M Dance Company in Works by Faculty and Guest Choregraphers
Sponsored by Department of Theatre, Dance & Film
Thursday, November 29, 2012-Saturday, December 1, 2012
The 2012 Fall Dance Concert features F&M’s third reconstruction of a work by the great 20th-century American choreographer Martha Graham. Celebration drew comment, at its 1934 premiere, on its athleticism. The dance’s revival by the Martha Graham Company in 1987 stimulated NY Times critic Anna Kisselgoff to write, “Run, don't walk, to see 'Celebration,’ a dazzling dance!” And Alastair Macauley marveled at the work’s “amazing … bodily, spatial and rhythmic architecture, and its ringing vehemence of expression” (NY Times, 2009).
Also presented at the Fall Dance Concert will be a “GeoDance” by F&M faculty member Jennifer Conley, exploring characteristics of lava flows and the mythic presence of Hawaiian fire goddess, Pele. Guest choreographer Tracey Davis, a Lancaster favorite, will contribute a modern work, as will Maungsai Somboon ’04, now dancing in New York. Flamenco by F&M faculty member Elba Hevia y Vaca, modern dances by F&M prof Pamela Vail, and an African dance by Lancaster’s own Sonya Mann-MacFarlane complete this exciting program.
This event is open to the public.
Ticket Information: $5 for students; $7.50 for F&M employees; $10 for off-campus patrons.
